Ronnie O’Sullivan is one of the most naturally gifted players ever to grace the professional snooker circuit, an accolade championed by many of the games top professionals and commentators.
Ronnie turned pro in the summer of 1992 at the age of 16. He had already won the under-16 British championship and in 1991, made his first 147 break. In his first professional year he set the record of 38 straight wins, won his first professional tournament (Nescafe Extra Challenge – non-ranking), qualified for all but one of the ranking tournaments and finished his debut season ranked 57th. Not bad for a teenager!
In 1993 O’Sullivan became the youngest ever winner of a world-ranking event, winning the UK Championship (which he also went on to win in 1997 and 2001) at the age of 17. In the 1996-1997 season he manages to complete the fastest maximum of all time against Mick Price at the World Championships in Sheffield, only 5 minutes and 20 seconds! Other notable achievements include his first World Championship crown in 2001 aswell as his first number 1 world rankings the same year.
More recently Ronnie has teamed up with Ray Reardon (six times world champion), saying; “I’m more excited about working with Ray than I am about winning the world title. Thanks to him I feel I can just get better and better”.
His most recent tournament victory was in the Masters, beating John Higgins 10-3 in the final. “I have confidence and belief in my game and I trust I can do it in Ireland and Sheffield. I’m bringing some form into tournaments and I need to have some faith in my ability. I’ve done the hard work and produced some strong results this season.”
