He turned pro in 1998 and quickly shot up the rankings (provisionally ranked 3rd), and in 2004 won his first ranking tournament, the European Open. “I knew I was good enough to win a big tournament but I’d never done anything in a ranking event,” said Stephen. “I wouldn’t say I doubted myself but I did wonder whether it would ever happen for me.
